Skip Stanaway

Skip D. F. Stanaway of Portland, Ore., is currently serving his first three-year term on the Shriners Hospitals for Children® Board of Trustees. He was elected during the Shriners’ 2011 annual Imperial Session – held in Denver July 3-7.

Stanaway is originally from Billings, Mont., and received his master’s degree in architecture from Montana State University. His father was an active Shriner and Potentate of Al Bedoo Shriners in Billings; Stanaway is following his example. In 1976, he was raised a Master Mason in Billings Lodge # 113, and continued on with York Rite Billings Chapter 6, Adoniram Council 8 and Aldemar Commandry 5.

Stanaway became a member of Al Kader Shriners after moving to Portland in 1989. Stanaway has served in many Divan positions and on special committees at Al Kader and is currently serving as Second Ceremonial Master.

Stanaway also served on the Board of Governors for Shriners Hospitals for Children – Portland for 11 years, where he led the Strategic Planning Committee. He is a 15-year member and Chair of the Providence Child Center Foundation Board where he led an endowment donor campaign, and the Oregon Halfway House Board of Directors where he led a major expansion. In addition, Stanaway has been Chair of the Lake Oswego Development Review Commission and currently serves on the Tualatin Design Review Board.

As an architect, Stanaway has written a number of professional articles and presented internationally to a variety of audiences on creating natural healing environments. Stanaway recently retired as Principal and Partner from SRG Partnership, a leading architecture and planning firm in the northwest. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects.

Stanaway enjoys playing trumpet in the Concert band, Jazz band and the Oriental Band. He and his wife, Crystal, have two sons, Tucker and Tate.
