Jim L. McConnell of Grand Forks, North Dakota, is currently serving his fifth year as a member of the Boards of Directors for Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children. McConnell was elected Imperial Treasurer, part of the 12-member body that helps govern the Shriners fraternity, during the Shriners’ 2016 Imperial Session – held in Tampa, Florida, July 3 - July 7.
McConnell was raised a Master Mason at Fidelity Lodge #52 in Drayton, North Dakota, and is now a member of Acacia Lodge #4 in Grand Forks. McConnell is also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Grand Forks and York Rite Bodies.
McConnell became a member of Kem Shriners in Grand Forks in 1978 and served as the temple’s Potentate in 1992. In 1996, McConnell was the recipient of the Samsar Award for his service to Kem Shriners.
For 19 years, McConnell served as the Imperial Auditor and as Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committees of Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children. He is also an emeritus representative of Shriners International and emeritus member of the Shrine Treasurers Association. In addition, he served on several other Imperial and hospital committees and has been a presenter at the Budget and Finance sections of the Oriental Guide Seminars. In 2005, McConnell was the recipient of the Imperial Potentate’s Award of Merit, which is the greatest honor that may be bestowed upon a Shriner.
McConnell is also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Royal Order of Jesters and the American Legion. He is also a lifetime member of Cabiri International.
McConnell received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Dakota. He is a retired certified public accountant and was a shareholder in the regional firm of Brady Martz and Associates, P.C., in Grand Forks. He is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs.
McConnell and his wife, Fran, have two daughters, Joy and Jill, and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Cally and Michael.
