At Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport, our care extends far beyond the hospital walls. Our staff members organize events and partner with a number of community organizations to provide opportunities for children to explore and grow their potential – inside and outside of the hospital.
While your child is staying in the hospital, our child life department offers a number of activities to provide fun, diversion and socialization. Seasonal celebrations such as Valentine’s Day and Halloween parties, as well as celebrations during the Easter and Christmas season, can brighten a child’s stay. Other regular activities throughout the year include special visits and parties hosted by members of the Shriners organization and Shriner-affiliated ladies groups. Some of our regular activities include:
While staying at the hospital, your child will be informed of weekly activities planned by the child life department. For questions regarding events and visiting groups, contact Tommie Hazen, child life coordinator, at 318-226-4215 or by email.
Each June, the Shreveport Shriners Hospital offers Spinability Camp, a weeklong, overnight camp developed specifically for children with spina bifida. Featuring educational sessions, crafts, sports and trips within the Shreveport community. Spinability Camp is designed to instill confidence and foster independence in our patients. Staffed around the clock by hospital staff and trained volunteers, the camp offers unique opportunities and new friendships in a caring and encouraging environment. Funded completely through donations, we are pleased to offer Spinability Camp at no charge to our families.
