Motion analysis center

The motion analysis center at Shriners Hospitals for Children Medical Center — Lexington provides detailed motion assessments of patients performing different tasks (walking, reaching, breathing, etc.) and uses the information collected to help doctors develop care plans for each patient. Our interdisciplinary team includes orthopaedic surgeons, a bioengineer, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a kinesiologist and a technician. Since May 1995, our motion analysis center has evaluated more than 14,000 patients and performs approximately 1,200 examinations a year.

Mission

To develop, advance and provide relevant information pertaining to human motion in a family-centered environment as an interdisciplinary team utilizing state-of-the-art technology.

Purpose of the center

Children with a variety of diagnoses are evaluated in the motion analysis center. These diagnoses include, but are not limited to cerebral palsy, brachial plexus injuries, myelomeningocele, limb deficiency, arthrogryposis, prosthetics, foot abnormalities and spine abnormalities.
