The health and safety of our patients, families and staff is our highest priority. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is requiring hospitals to meet established criteria as part of the state’s reopening plan. Effective March 22, 2021, Massachusetts moved into phase four of its reopening plan. The Boston Shriners Hospital moved to phase four in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s guidance plan for reopening. The Boston Shriners Hospital completed its Phase 1 attestation on May 27, 2020, and its Phase 2 attestation on June 15, 2020 and its Phase 3 attestation on July 13, 2020. The Phase 3 attestation was resubmitted and reaffirmed on November 16, 2020. The Boston Shriners Hospital also completed and submitted the state’s resurgence attestation on November 16, 2020.

Patient referrals and transfers

Referring or transferring patients to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Boston is a simple process which only involves a phone call. Any child under age 18 is eligible for care so long as the child’s condition is within the scope of services provided. All children are treated regardless of the families' ability to pay.

Refer a patient

To refer a patient to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Boston please contact a referral coordinator and you will be guided through the admissions process.

Urgent referral

Children with severe burns and other emergent needs are admitted through a physician-to-physician referral. The referring physician should contact the physician-on-call by calling 844-8-LOVE-IS (844-856-8347).

Transfer a patient

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Boston provides 24-hour physician and intensive care coverage.

Patients are routinely transferred, transported and admitted to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Boston’s pediatric intensive care unit directly from hospitals or physicians’ offices.

Our registered nurse supervisor or attending physician will coordinate with you to facilitate the urgent transfer of your patient to the Boston Shriners Hospital.
