Donating items

Donating items

Thank you for your interest in donating items to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Chicago. Our hospital gladly accepts donations of new, latex-free items. Unfortunately we cannot accept used toys, used car seats, used cloth diapers, decorative hanging quilts or any items that contain rubber or latex. For more information and assistance with donations, contact Mary McCauley, donations coordinator, via email or phone 773-385-5588. The following is a list of suggested items to donate to our pediatric hospital:


  • New unwrapped toys and dolls
  • Small toys such as yo-yos and dominoes
  • Toys for children under age 2
  • Small bottles of bubbles


  • Latex-free sports balls
  • Nerf balls

Art supplies:

  • Painting sets
  • Coloring books – non violent
  • Crayons, colored pencils and markers
  • Velvet posters to color
  • Stickers
  • Play Dough/modeling clay
  • Journals/diaries


  • Playing cards
  • Card games (UNO, Skip Bo, Old Maid)
  • Board games

Other ideas:

  • Backpacks
  • Cameras (35mm, disposable, instant)
  • DVDs (PG-13, PG and G ratings only)
  • 2.5–5 lb. wrist weights
  • Pedometers

Regarding donations of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, walkers, etc.

We are not able to accept donations of durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs or crutches at this time. For your convenience we’ve provided a list of some area organizations that may be able to accept them, along with the types of equipment they may accept.
