Ann Flanagan, PT, PCS

Ann Flanagan, PT, PCS, is a physical therapist at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Chicago and a research coordinator at our pediatric hospital. She is certified as a pediatric specialist from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Flanagan has worked at our hospital for more than three decades in a variety of roles, and is a former director of the rehabilitation department. She provides services with the spina bifida clinic team at our hospital. She has previously worked as a physical therapist in early intervention, public schools and outpatient therapy practices in the Chicago area.

She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association pediatric section and serves on the Professional Advisory Council of the Illinois Spina Bifida Association.

Flanagan has presented at numerous national and international conferences on topics and research related to physical therapy, cerebral palsy and motion analysis studies. As a physical therapist, Flanagan is acutely concerned with the mobility, function, gait and activity levels of the children we see. In her role as a research coordinator, she currently coordinates studies looking at long-term outcomes of individuals with cerebral palsy and arthrogryposis, as well as looking at current outcomes of the hospitals’ scoliosis-specific exercise program. Her major research interests include spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, gait, orthotics, osteogenesis imperfecta, club feet, myelomeningocele and prosthetics.
