Sol, from clubfoot patient to push up champion!

Image collage of Sol in the hospital as a young girl with a foot cast and today, as a gymnastCongratulations Sol! This junior high school student recently beat the boys in a push up challenge at her school. Her mom, Elda, said it is amazing considering Sol was born with clubfoot, a condition where, in her case, her left foot turned inwards. Sol came to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Chicago at age 3. She underwent surgeries from Shriners Hospitals Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon Haluk Altiok, M.D., to straighten her foot.

Proud mom Elda sent a video of the push up challenge to our hospital and said "Look at her now!" Over the years, the family has turned to our orthopaedic specialists for a variety of injuries related to her sport. "Dr. Altiok always understood Sol's determination and dedication to gymnastics so he supported her recovery from all her injuries to get her back in the gym to compete. Sol and I are forever grateful for Dr. Altiok, his staff and the Shriners Hospitals organization for putting quality care and human care above all else," Elda said.
