Every gift to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Philadelphia is gratefully accepted and acknowledged. There are many ways to give to the hospital, allowing donors to contribute in a way that is meaningful and personal to them. The hospital works hard to make sure all gifts are used in the most efficient and effective manner. Being good stewards of our financial resources is important both for providing the best patient care today and for making sure we are able to continue our mission into the future. Your gift allows us to help children regardless of the families’ ability to pay.

Memorials or tribute gifts

Memorial or tribute gifts are gratefully received by the hospital for the benefit of our programs. Gifts can also be made to honor an individual’s birthday, anniversary, promotion or any other celebration. Donors receive acknowledgement letters for their gifts. Notification letters are also mailed to honorees or the designated family member, informing them of gifts made in their honor or in memory of a loved one. Notification letters provide the donor’s name. To establish a memorial or tribute gift, please contact the finance department at 215-430-4044.

Stocks

Gifts of stock or electronic cash transfers are coordinated with the development office in partnership with individuals and their financial institutions. Leaving a legacy, major and planned giving

Major and planned gifts are meaningful ways that individuals can advance programs of the hospital for the benefit of children. Careful planning and consideration is given to all such gifts in consultation with donors, their families and legal or wealth advisors to ensure donor wishes are met. Naming opportunities and recognition methods are available. Bequests

Bequests are the transfers of wealth that occur upon a donor's death and include transfers using a will or a trust. Bequests can take several forms, such as:

Donors can also name one or more nonprofits as beneficiaries of an insurance policy, as the recipient of an IRA or other qualified retirement fund.

Charitable gift annuity

A charitable gift annuity (CGA) is a contract under which a charity, in return for a transfer of cash, marketable securities or other assets, agrees to pay a fixed amount of money (payment) to one or two individuals for their lifetime.

Life estate agreement

A life estate agreement is a way for a person to donate a home or farmland when they are still living without having to vacate the property or give up any benefits, and continue using the asset during their lifetime.

Charitable remainder trust

A charitable remainder trust (CRT) is an irrevocable trust typically funded with highly appreciated property. The CRT is structured so that there is a current beneficiary who is either the donor or a named individual, and a remainder beneficiary, which is a qualified charity.

From neighborhood lemonade stands, birthday parties to golf outings, music festivals and galas, people host events to benefit the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital throughout the year. In-kind donations

Toys and other gifts-in-kind support programs throughout the hospital. For the safety of our patients, all gifts must be new, unused items. Donors will be asked to complete a gift-in-kind form when they deliver their donation to the hospital. If you would like to donate toys or specific gifts, our child life team can advise on what is most needed. We have compiled a Patient gift guide, but age groups are always shifting so we can work with you to identify the most appropriate items.
