Research indicates that the earlier a child is referred to our medical center, the more positive and significant the long-term outcome can be for that child.

First-time patients

If your child has a condition for which Shriners Hospitals for Children — Erie offers treatment, please contact our intake/referral coordinator to schedule an appointment. Your coordinator will partner with you to gather the necessary information to schedule an evaluation for your child. The coordinator can be reached at 814-875-8866.

Outpatient clinic patients

If your child is not a first-time patient and you want to schedule, reschedule or cancel a follow-up clinic appointment, or for questions about registration, please call 814-875-8725.

Please remember to bring to appointments:

  • You child’s insurance ID card
  • A list of current medications your child is taking
  • X-rays
  • Your child’s primary care provider’s name, address, phone and fax number

Ambulatory surgery patients

If you have questions about your scheduled surgery or the ambulatory surgical process, please call 814-875-8760.

Pre-surgical visit

If you have a planned admission, you can expect a phone call from your care manager one to four weeks prior to your admission date. A pre-surgical appointment may be scheduled. If for some reason you find it necessary to cancel the surgical procedure, please let the care management department know as soon as possible.

We will try our best to make your child’s ambulatory surgery experience as stress free as possible, beginning at the time of your arrival. Please plan to arrive at the time designated. You will be met by the admission nurse and the medical provider, who will review your child’s health history. Although the health history review may seem repetitive, your answers help us provide your child with the best care possible.

Each patient is assigned a nurse to care for him or her. You may have many questions about the medical center, your child’s appointment/surgery and the care that your child will be receiving. The nursing staff is always available to provide you with the information you need.
