New partnership offers Shriners Hospitals for Children — Erie patients a splashing good time

As a toddler, Henry was diagnosed with achondroplasia, the most common type of short-limbed dwarfism. Shortly after diagnosis his family was referred to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Erie. Henry needed specialty care, and after visiting with the staff at the medical center, the family was confident that he would not only receive the highest quality care, but they would also receive guidance on how to help Henry reach his fullest potential.

Henry has been a patient at the Erie Shriners Medical Center for 10 years and has had two surgical procedures, physical and occupational therapy, and has worn braces to help him be as independent as possible. The strong support that he receives from his family helps him to be independent as well. His brother and sister often accompany him to his therapy appointments, and his parents work along with the staff to make sure he follows the instructions given to him by his health care providers.

When a new program was developed with Splash Lagoon to honor a patient once each quarter, multiple staff members nominated Henry to be the first recipient. In a fun presentation with Splash Lagoon mascot, Fin, as well as Shriners Hospitals for Children — Erie staff, Henry was presented with a Splash Lagoon overnight experience that includes a hotel stay, Splash Lagoon passes for two days and breakfast. His family enjoys spending time together and they are grateful for the opportunity to have a fun family weekend at Splash Lagoon!
