Shriners Hospitals for Children — Erie embraces a culture of care that respects the rights, needs and safety of all patients and families. Our professional team will ensure you receive appropriate education regarding your child’s condition, treatment and ongoing care needs. Patients and families are encouraged to share their questions and concerns with the care teams.

Health precautions

If within three weeks of the surgery date your child experiences any of the following conditions, please call our outpatient clinic at 814-875-8700 Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to speak with a nurse.

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Rash or redness of skin
  • Night sweats
  • Itching of body/scalp or lice
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Exposure to chicken pox or measles
  • Upper respiratory illness

Patient responsibility

A parent or legal guardian must accompany your child on the day of surgery. If legal guardianship is held by someone other than the biological parent(s), please bring guardianship papers with you to the medical center. If custody is granted to one parent by the courts, a copy of this court order will also be needed for our records. The papers must be in English.

When you arrive at the medical center, please check in at the reception desk in the lobby.
