Shriners Hospitals for Children — Galveston honors DAISY Award recipients

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Galveston honors DAISY Award recipients

The DAISY Award is an honor given to nurses for providing extraordinary nursing care. Nominations come from our patients, their families and our staff. In recognizing the skillful and compassionate care that nurses provide, the DAISY Award perfectly embodies the Shriners Hospitals for Children mission of providing the highest quality of care to children and their families within a compassionate, family-centered and collaborative care environment. We are grateful for this opportunity to recognize our DAISY award winners.

This year, the recipients of the DAISY Award from Shriners Hospitals for Children — Galveston are Judith Underbrink and Rachel Chapman.

Judith came up with an idea of giving our patients a certificate of completion as they transitioned into adulthood. When the patients receive their certificates, it gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment. One of Judith’s colleagues nominated her for the DAISY Award. Judith started with our organization in 1999.

Rachel is a care manager, and is recognized for consistently ensuring her patients' needs are being met. She was nominated by a surgical resident for demonstrating exemplary nursing care, and was commended for her attention to detail, courage, leadership, kindness and compassion for Shriners Hospitals for Children patients. Rachel has been with Shriners Hospitals for Children — Galveston for a little over one year.
