Greenville Shriners Hospital Employee of the Month awarded to Glenda Armstrong

Greenville Shriners Hospital Employee of the Month awarded to Glenda Armstrong

Together, doing the right thing, the right way, every time, for every child.

These words are found perched upon banners and emblazoned on the walls of Shriners Hospitals for Children — Greenville. The phrase not only serves as a local mission statement, but is also the mindset of the hospital’s employees. To recognize those who personify this statement, each month a clinical, administrative or support staff member is nominated by their peers as Employee of the Month.

The Employee of the Month for February is housekeeper Glenda Armstrong. The following is an excerpt from Glenda’s nomination:

Nomination #1: When I interviewed at the Greenville Shriners Hospital, Glenda was the first person to say "hello" and chat with me for a bit. To this day, she is still one of the first people to say "good morning" and ask about my day. I see her do this to everyone, everyday! Everyone who walks into our hospital – patients, families, visiting medical staff, leadership and co-workers – feels her extraordinary spirit and unwavering kindness. She is a shining example of the respect and integrity for which our hospital staff is known. This is why I feel she deserves this nomination.

Nomination #2: Caring. It is perhaps the one, most important quality to possess when you work in a children's hospital. And it is the one single word that best encapsulates my nominee for Employee of the Month – Glenda Armstrong. While she does her job well and can be depended upon to meet any and all requests made of her, it is the way she truly cares for each fellow employee and every family who steps through the door that sets her truly apart. From remembering the smallest detail of a special weekend plan a co-worker mentioned in passing (and then inquiring with them with true interest about it the next Monday), to recalling a patient's sibling's name months after she heard it once...the level of "caring" that Glenda effortlessly demonstrates to any and all who cross her path is extraordinary. Glenda's love for the Greenville Shriners Hospital is spent upon the people she encounters in common ways, and showers with her uncommon thoughtfulness. This hospital is a better place because she is here.

Congratulations, Glenda!
