Shriners Hospitals for Children — Honolulu receives many questions. Here are some common questions and answers to help you learn more about our hospital.

Do you need to be sponsored by a Shriner to receive care?

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Honolulu does not require any special sponsorship. Any child may receive care at our hospital. While many patients come for an appointment without a referral, some health insurance providers might require a referral. Please check with your health insurance provider.

What is the age limit for a child to receive care at Shriners Hospitals for Children?

We care for children from 0 to 18. Some children may receive a special exception beyond 18 if they are already receiving care at Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Do you help care for children within Hawaii?

More than 70 percent of the children who receive care at the Honolulu Shriners Hospital are from Hawaii. We welcome all children up to age 18 with or without insurance and regardless of the families’ ability to pay. We also see children on neighbor islands through our outreach clinics.

Does Honolulu Shriners Hospital help athletes too?

Yes, we help all children up to age 18 whether they have an injury on the playground, at home or on the sports field. We also have a walk-in fracture clinic.

Do your physicians help patients with insurance?

Yes, we help children with or without insurance, regardless of the families' ability to pay.

What types of conditions do your physicians treat?

Our pediatric orthopaedic surgeons help children with bone, joint and muscle conditions from the neck down. These orthopaedic conditions may be something that the child is born with or something caused by an injury. Our pediatric neurologist helps children with brain conditions such as autism, epilepsy, ADHD and neurodevelopmental conditions. Our physical therapists help children with bone, joint and muscle conditions. Our orthotics and prosthetics professionals also help children with devices for their orthopaedic conditions.
