Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services – Honolulu, LLC

Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS) – Honolulu, LLC, at the Honolulu Shriners Hospital specializes in custom fabrication of artificial limbs and braces for children, adolescents and young adults. The Honolulu Shriners Hospital has more than a 90-year history of creating custom designed orthotic and prosthetic devices for our patients with mobility issues and limb deficiencies.

Using advanced technology, including computer aided design (CAD) and manufacturing software, our team of American board-certified orthotists and prosthetists fabricate custom devices in our on-site laboratory. The POPS team is directly involved with patient care management, working closely with the child and their family to support the lifestyle and medical needs of the child. The POPS practitioners work with a variety of congenital and acquired orthopaedic conditions, including:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Scoliosis
  • Toe-walking
  • Clubfoot or flat feet
  • Spina bifida
  • Orthopaedic, neurologic and genetic disorders
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Developmental variants such as leg length discrepancy or bony malalignment
  • Upper and lower limb deficiencies

The orthotists and prosthetists work collaboratively with the rehabilitation team to put the child front and center, encouraging independence and participation in school, sports and play. All are part of an extraordinary team of pediatric health care professionals practicing under one roof for the convenience of patients and families.

The POPS practitioners and technicians fit upper and lower limb prostheses and orthoses with an emphasis on exceptional fit, comfort and appearance to improve function and mobility.

Orthotic and prosthetic devices include:

  • Body-powered myeloelectric and upper extremity prostheses
  • Boston-style scoliosis brace
  • Providence-style scoliosis brace (nighttime)
  • Endoskeletal and exoskeletal prostheses
  • Variety of sports related prostheses

The POPS team is also an important part of the hospital’s satellite clinics on the neighbor islands and Pacific islands.
