Support services

At Shriners Hospitals for Children — Honolulu, care is delivered in a patient/family-centered model, which means the patient and `ohana are the focus. In addition to your medical care, we have the following support services and accommodations.

Play areas

Patients are scheduled for play as part of their daily routine. Structured and unstructured activities take place in the hospital each day. Recreation therapists supervise activities that include everything from arts and crafts, adapted sports, local musician performances, pet therapy, special events, games and much more.

Alumni and current patients

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Honolulu has a patient ambassador program. Would your child like to represent the Honolulu Shriners Hospital in some of our public activities, feature stories and events? Contact our marketing and communications department via email to become a patient ambassador.

Transportation services

  • Airport pickup – Transportation to and from the airport is initiated by the patient’s primary care physician who will submit a request to the patient’s insurance. From there, insurance will secure your transportation. We are very lucky to partner with Speedishuttle. They will transport patients to us on request.
  • Shriners Hospitals for Children — Honolulu may assist with transportation needs in the event you and your child have no other resource for transportation. Contact the care management transportation resource navigator for assistance at 808-951-3669.

Wi-Fi access

Our hospital campus has free Wi-Fi access. You may login from your smart phone or tablet. All you need to do is accept the acceptable use acknowledgement when you go to your browser.

Interpreter services

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Honolulu offers interpretive services for you and your child. It is vital that information about your child is communicated to you in your preferred language. We use credible and well-established interpretive services that provide us with both in-person and telephonic interpreters.

For the comfort of the other patients, we request that all calls are made before 8 p.m. An exception may be made for calls outside the United States due to time zone differences. Charges for all calls made by patients/parents are the responsibility of the patient/parent.
