At Shriners Hospitals for Children, the health and safety of our patients, families, volunteers and staff is our top priority. With the rapidly evolving situation regarding coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), we are closely monitoring updates and alerts from local health departments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and are actively following their recommendations.

Please note that Shriners Hospitals for Children does not administer COVID-19 testing or treatment at this time. Volunteer

Volunteer

Our volunteers complement the care provided to our patients by assisting in patient care or support areas. Patient care areas include recreation therapy or physical therapy. Support areas include performing clerical tasks (computer skills not required), transporting our patients and their families in our vans, delivering supplies, reception/switchboard desk coverage, tutoring patients or other tasks. Only weekdays are available for volunteers at this time.

We do our best to place volunteers based on the needs of our hospital, individual interest and availability so our volunteers will have a meaningful experience.

Volunteer requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Must be available to volunteer two hours per week during the weekdays for at least five months
  • Supply two references
  • Agree to a criminal background check (conducted for those 18 years and older)
  • Submit to a drug test
  • Provide proof of immunizations, prior disease or lab test results by your physician for mumps and rubella (MMR), measles and varicella (chicken pox)
  • An influenza vaccine is required during flu season

We keep all volunteer applications active for six months. However, due to the volume of applications we receive, we ask that you please re-apply so we have your most current information. This will be a way to let us know you are still interested in volunteering and to ensure we can better match any available opportunities with your experience. When an appropriate volunteer position is available, you will be contacted for an interview.
