Shriners Hospitals for Children child life assistant goes the extra mile for patient families during pandemic

Child life assistant Christopher Sallans, or Mr. Chris, as patients love to call him, typically carries out a daily afternoon program for inpatients, giving them a creative outlet during their hospital stay.

With COVID-19 concerns and the stay-at-home order, he wanted to be able to continue supporting families. Sallans created arts and crafts videos shared online through the Shriners Hospitals for Children — Houston digital pages, helping parents with ideas on how to keep the kids engaged and entertained at home, while also providing tips on how to encourage open discussions, self-expression and creativity.

Read more about his efforts in the feature story by the Houston Chronicle.
