David B. Drake, M.D.

David B. Drake, M.D., is a hand and plastic surgeon at Shriners Hospitals for Children Medical Center — Lexington, and is board certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, with added qualifications in hand surgery. He is an associate professor of surgery at the University of Kentucky. He received an undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Drake completed his residencies in general surgery at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, and in plastic surgery at the University of Virginia. He went on to complete a burn fellowship, a hand surgery fellowship and a microvascular surgery fellowship at the University of Virginia.

Areas of special interest to Dr. Drake include hand surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery (breast surgery, body contouring and reconstructive microsurgery). His research interests in allograft tendon reconstruction for hand injuries is novel, and is focused on providing new reconstructive avenues for the patient with complex hand injuries.

Dr. Drake is also affiliated with various associations, including the American Association for Hand Surgery, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons and the American Burn Association.
