October 8–14, 2017, is National Fire Prevention Week, and it’s a great time to remind our patients, families and communities about all the great resources Shriners Hospitals for Children has available all year long. To keep everyone safe, Be Burn Aware materials are available all year long. These are great educational tools for all ages, covering electrical, fire, home and scald safety.
This year’s theme is Every Second Counts – Plan 2 Ways Out! The theme highlights the importance of having a practiced home escape plan that everyone in the family knows. Seconds count in a fire and an escape plan can reduce the risk of injury or death in a fire. When a fire strikes, you may have less than one minute to safely get out of a building. Knowing what to do can mean the difference between life and death.
In Massachusetts, the State Fire Marshal's office has compiled a list of local resources for families, including helpful information on developing home escape plans and conducting home fire drills. Valuable tips and reminders on fire prevention and safety are also available from the National Fire Protection Association.
At Shriners Hospitals for Children — Boston, we want everyone to Be Burn Aware every day, so please take a few minutes this week to learn ways to keep yourself and your family safe.
