Patient ambassador's dream becomes reality

Receives TV show "Fuller House" VIP tour and meet and greet

Thank you to our amazing community partner, Lollipop Theater, for making the dreams of one of our Los Angeles Shriners Hospitals patient ambassadors a reality. Alyssa Mercado was presented with the opportunity to participate in a special screening of the hit show Fuller House and personally met actress Candace Cameron-Bure, who plays D. J. Tanner in the hit show.

Alyssa has been a patient at the Los Angeles Shriners Hospital since she was 6 years old. In 2006 Alyssa sustained burns on 40 percent of her body. After receiving initial care at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California, in Sacramento, Alyssa was referred to the Los Angeles Shriners Hospital for reconstructive surgery. Katherine Au, M.D., plastic surgeon, performed numerous laser and burn reconstructive surgeries and thanks to her fantastic work Alyssa feels confident and comfortable in her skin.

Today, Alyssa is a dedicated student and a committed patient ambassador. She has participated in various events for our hospital and Shrine fraternity, and has also partaken in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, Rose Parade.

The Mercado family has nothing but appreciation for the Northern California and Los Angeles Shriners Hospitals and the special staff members who helped Alyssa and the family heal from their experience. The Mercado family members are great ambassadors for the hospital, advocating to their community about the exemplary service we provide, while educating local schools on burn awareness.

Thanks Alyssa and mom for sharing these great pictures with us.
