Essentials of pediatric orthropaedics – CME course May 12
On Friday, May 12, 8 a.m.–3:30 p.m, Shriners Hospitals for Children — Philadelphia will host a CME course for local providers to learn the nuts and bolts of pediatric orthopaedics.
This conference is designed for practicing primary care pediatricians, residents, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, and physician assistant students who are involved with the management of, or diagnosing of, pediatric orthopaedic and spine conditions.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to:
Describe how to do a pediatric orthopaedic exam
Demonstrate early recognition of pediatric orthopaedic conditions and congenital disorders
Discuss the principles of the radiology of the developing human skeleton
Identify emergent/urgent fractures
Highlight the urgency of nerve injury treatment
Demonstrate how to screen for scoliosis
Discuss indications for bracing versus surgery for scoliosis
Create a management plan for abnormal head positioning and identify signs and symptoms of when to refer a patient for consultation
Identify when to order further diagnostic tests on a spinal dimple and when to refer
