Referral guidelines
Shriners for Children Medical Center does not offer emergency room or urgent care services. Patients should first seek treatment from their pediatrician/physician, local urgent care center or emergency room to evaluate and stabilize the fracture/injury, especially if the patient has open fractures, circulatory involvement, nerve issues, or life- or limb-threatening conditions.
The patient’s physician can then arrange an appointment through our fracture referral process. You may also call us directly to make arrangements. Children up to age 18 are eligible for care. We ask patients to please bring existing X-rays of the fracture or injury to the appointment.
Visiting the clinic
Same or next day appointments are available for the majority of our patients Monday-Friday (except holidays). For physicians referring patients for fracture care, call our referral line to schedule an appointment. Please remember to bring all relevant X-ray imaging to the appointment.
We accept most health insurance, including straight Medi-Cal. Preauthorization may be required by some health insurance plans for fracture care. For more details and to make an appointment, please call us at 888-486-KIDS (5437).
