Meet our occupational therapist, Alonzo Hidalgo, MS, OTR/L

April is National Occupational Therapy Month

Alonzo Hidalgo, MS, OTR/L, is an occupational therapist at Shriners for Children Medical Center — Pasadena.

Alonzo is dedicated to providing effective and meaningful interventions for the pediatric population with physical disabilities, as well as treatment of hand and upper extremity injuries. During his rotations, he gained experience working with children at an outpatient sensory clinic, a school and during home-based therapy. Alonzo graduated from California State University Los Angeles with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, and he received a master’s degree in occupational therapy from West Coast University.

Alonzo enjoys helping kids return to their valued play activities and a healthy, active lifestyle. He helps patients transition from the medical center to home by focusing on improving daily functional skills. Occupational therapy focuses on all the things one does with the hands, such as dressing, grooming, bathing and eating.

Alonzo is a part-time martial arts instructor on the weekends and will always look to incorporate holistic concepts such as fall safety, meditation, gentle stretching, and Dan Jun relaxation breathing techniques in the care of his patients.

Alonzo is a native Californian and enjoys many leisure activities in his free time, including hiking, long-distance running, traveling, martial arts training and spending time with his pet cat, Squinkies, while watching movies.
