Introducing orthopaedic surgeon Cynthia Nguyen

We are pleased to welcome Cynthia Nguyen, M.D., a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon and the newest member of the medical staff at the Shriners for Children Medical Center in Pasadena.

Educational background

Dr. Nguyen received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where she was recognized for her outstanding efforts and contributions to research. She was given the Outstanding Achievement in Orthopedic Research award from the college’s department of orthopedic surgery. She completed her residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Nguyen then earned her fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at the University of Utah.

A fellowship abroad

Soon after Dr. Nguyen finished her fellowship in Utah and before she joined the Shriners for Children Medical Center in Pasadena, she traveled to West Africa. There she completed a fellowship in complex spine deformities at the FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital in Accra, Ghana. “Dr. Nguyen has extensive training in pediatric orthopaedic surgery and scoliosis treatment. Her recent completion of her fellowship at the FOCOS hospital in Ghana allowed her to learn about treatment of difficult and neglected pediatric orthopaedic and spine conditions,” said Dr. Robert Cho, chief of staff.

Her areas of special interest include spine deformity, scoliosis, early onset scoliosis, lower limb deformities and general pediatric orthopaedics. In her spare time, Dr. Nguyen loves to cook, play ultimate Frisbee, and go hiking and backpacking.
