Burn survivors, doctors and donors are honored

Kechi shines at Children’s Burn Foundation Gala

We were delighted to receive a message recently from Sharon Townsend, executive director for the Children’s Burn Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support services for child burn survivors and their families. Sharon wanted to know if we would like to participate in their upcoming gala.

After viewing the 2018 Rose Parade and hearing Kechi’s story, the foundation members could not think of a better person to highlight at their Gala. Besides featuring Kechi’s story and her amazing talent, they also wanted to recognize the great efforts of William Magee, M.D., D.D.S., and all of the Shriners for Children Medical Center doctors on our burn reconstruction team.

During the event, our very own Rick Bushnell, M.D., spoke about the mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children and how staff at all 22 Shriners Hospitals locations are dedicated to improving the lives of children all over the world. He also introduced Kechi to an auditorium filled with doctors, donors and survivors who were anxiously awaiting her performance.

Kechi amazed the audience with her voice and confidence. She was very much the center of attention at the Gala and spoke about how music and the treatment she received at the Galveston Shriners Hospital saved her life.
