Shriners for Children Medical Center patient ambassador Michaela participated in the Third Annual Lollipop Theater Superhero Walk. Lollipop Theater is one of our supportive community partners. This organization provides our patients with the experience of lining up at the theater when their favorite movie opens, getting a ticket, grabbing popcorn, and picking out a seat. The movie events that Lollipop host at the medical center give our patients (who do not go or would not usually be able to go to the theater) the full movie theater experience.

Lollipop gets the season’s biggest blockbusters while they are still in the theater and delivers them to our patients and families at Shriners for Children Medical Center. They work with leading motion picture studios to bring the joy, magic and quick escape of the movies to our amazing patients. We find this extremely beneficial for our patients as it brings a "routine" experience to their day, which in turn increases their strength and hope.

To build awareness of their organization, Lollipop began holding Superhero Walks, and this year decided to highlight one of our local patient ambassadors, Michaela. Michaela is an 8-year-old who overcame many challenges at an early age. Michaela was born with several congenital abnormalities that required surgery when she was 6 months old. “She has been seen by Shriners for Children medical professionals since she was about 3 months old, so Shriners for Children Medical Center is like family to us. Every visit has always been so pleasant," said Michaela’s mom.

Lollipop Theater paired Michaela with a fantastic costume designer, Maranda Nichols Persico, who met personally with her to create a one-of-a-kind superhero costume. Michaela revealed her costume and superhero persona, Dazzling Wonder Girl, during the Superhero Walk this past weekend. Dazzling Wonder Girl's superhero power is that with one look she can cure all.
