Meet our 2018 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open standard bearer

Cristian was chosen as one of 22 patient ambassadors throughout the country who will represent their local Shriners Hospitals for Children location at the 2018 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. They will serve as a standard bearer, carrying the scores of professional golfers as they compete in the tournament. It is a rare “inside the ropes” opportunity at a PGA TOUR event, and for Cristian, a chance to share how Shriners for Children Medical Center has helped transform his life.

About Cristian

Cristian was born with spina bifida. Four of his 12 surgeries were at the former Shriners Hospitals for Children — Los Angeles, now Shriners for Children Medical Center in Pasadena. The care Cristian received at the medical center has completely changed his life and has given him the independence and confidence to do many things that were not possible before.

Cristian is musically inclined and plays the guitar and cello for his high school orchestra. He is also an advisor for the National Honor Society. Cristian recently completed his Eagle Scout project, delivering more than 200 stuffed bears to fellow patients at Shriners for Children Medical Center. Cristian also enjoys spending time with his family in the outdoors while camping, fishing, hiking and four-wheeling. He is the youngest of three children and loves being an uncle to his nieces and nephews. His best friend is his dog, Barkley. Cristian is currently a Senior in high school and intends to pursue a degree in engineering. In his spare time, he loves to play his favorite video games.

As part of his participation in the tournament, Christian’s story and photo will appear in the tournament program, and his information will be shared with the Golf Channel, which will televise the tournament nationally, to be used during the broadcast. The broadcast reaches over 700 million homes across 240 countries worldwide.
