Celebrating individuality and empowerment

Patients star in web-based promotional video

This past weekend, a few of our patients from Shriners for Children Medical Center were selected to participate in a short web-based promotional video intended to inform and educate viewers about different types of disabilities. The organization producing the public service announcement (PSA) is one of our new community partners, Adaptive Life Company. Adaptive Life is an organization teaching communities about accessibility for people with disabilities and creating products for families with special needs, by families with special needs.

The PSA celebrates individuality, empowerment and awareness for kids and young adults with disabilities. The theme of letting “kids be kids,” showed that movement, dance and sports are not limited by any disability. Our little actors and dancers had a great time sharing their experiences and goals with one another. Both Shriners Hospitals for Children and Adaptive Life are organizations that just want kids to be kids, either by providing them equipment to facilitate that, or by providing treatment or maybe a prosthesis that allows a patient with a missing limb to dance.
