21st Annual Christmas in July Toy Run

It may be the middle of the summer, but to the patients at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Philadelphia, there is nothing like spending a Sunday waiting for Santa Claus! That’s right; Santa is coming to town on his motorcycle and bringing 500 of his closest motorcycle friends with him for the 21st Annual Christmas in July Toy Run on Sunday, July 30 arriving at 11:30 a.m.

The Philadelphia Chapter of the Centurions, a Police sponsored motorcycle club, roars into Shriners Hospitals for Children every year and has been doing so since 1996, bearing gifts and cheer lead by none other than Santa himself. The run leaves the Police Academy, 8501 State Road, at 11 a.m. and the group anticipates arriving at Shriners Hospitals for Children between 11:30 and 11:45 a.m.. Shriners Hospital is located at 3551 N. Broad Street at Venango. Officers from the elite Highway Patrol Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department will escort the convoy down Broad Street and arrive safely at the hospital where patients will be waiting with excitement.

Several bike clubs participate each year and all bike enthusiasts are encouraged to ride and participate. Sign-ups are at the Police Academy from 8–10 a.m., $20 per person or $30 per couple. If you participate in the ride, please bring a new, unwrapped toy. Sorry, no stuffed animals. Breakfast will be sizzling with omelets, home fries, coffee and pastries.

In addition to the toy donations, monetary donations have also been a part of the Centurions Motor Cycle Club, Philadelphia Chapter's annual Christmas in July Toy Run. To date, the group has collectively raised more than $305,000. They have a permanent plaque on the Shriners Hospital donor wall.

After the run, join us for a barbecue (all you can eat and live entertainment) at the Ukrainian Club, 847 North Franklin Street. For more information, call Frank C. at 267-228-0804.
