Shriners Hospitals for Children is proud to announce the winner of “The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses”

Tim Musial, RN, BSN of Shriners Hospitals for Children — Philadelphia, was recognized as the hospital's 2018 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses winner.

The Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses is presented at the hospital once a year during National Nurses Week. It is a way to honor the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day. Patients, families, colleagues, physicians and other staff nominated over 30 nurses this year. Each nomination includes a story of what the nurse has done to merit recognition and compassionate care, as well as great clinical skill.

One of the nomination letters stated, “To see this nurse interact with the kids is such a blessing. You can tell Tim loves what he does.”

Tim began his nursing career at our hospital shortly after graduating from nursing school in 2014. He works on day shift on the inpatient floor.

Another family wrote, “Due to the surgery of my 2-year-old, I was scared when anyone walked into our room. Tim was so gentle and caring with my baby. He always listened and made her comfortable. He was the only nurse that was able to feed my baby when I wasn’t in the room. Tim was so understanding and patient and I appreciate him from the bottom of my heart.”

Congratulations Tim and well done to his fellow nominees:

About the DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation was created in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of an autoimmune disease (hence the name, an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) Patrick received extraordinary care from his nurses, and his family felt compelled to express their profound gratitude for the compassion and skill nurses bring to patients and families every day. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses celebrates nurses in over 2,600 health care facilities around the world. For more information about The DAISY Award and the Foundation’s other recognition of nurses, faculty, and students, visit DAISYfoundation.org.
