Business executive invites former patient to caddie in charity golf tournament

Golfers drive for Shriners

Two top-notch golfers will walk the links of Granite Bay Golf Club together for the final round of the 2019 Capital Cup charity golf tournament on Sunday, September 29. Joe DeBiasio, a local business executive who will be golfing to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children, chose Michael Valencia as his caddie.

Michael, a below-the-knee amputee, was an infant when he had his first appointment at the Northern California Shriners Hospital. Over the years, he participated in sports days, camps, and other events organized by Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California to help kids with physical challenges achieve their personal best. Michael was a stand-out on his high school golf team, and he now plays on the Folsom Lake College golf team. DeBiasio has three nieces who have been successfully treated at Shriners Hospitals for Children. One niece was a patient at the Boston hospital. Two of his nieces were treated at the Northern California hospital.

“I am happy to report that all my nieces are happy and healthy girls living their best lives. With the amazing care provided to all children who need it, supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California was really a no-brainer,” DeBiasio said.
