Motion analysis center

Patients benefit from the sophisticated technology found in the motion analysis center, where a patient’s movement is measured with video documentation, 3-D motion analysis and muscle-timing information. The lab is one of only four of its kind in California.

Orthotics and prosthetics

A regional leader in scoliosis and clubfoot bracing, the Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services – West, LLC team brings more than 175 years of combined experience designing braces, artificial arms and legs, and other adaptive devices for children. Occupational and physical therapists help children regain strength, skills, abilities and independence as they guide young patients on how to use adaptive devices and walk on their new legs.

Patients explore potential

Patients are encouraged to engage in therapeutic recreation and other activities that allow them to explore their full potential. Recreation specialists help patients identify and engage in activities they enjoy. Patients are encouraged to attend sporting events, go to movies and participate in other community events. Many patients participate in recreational sports, including skiing, tennis, baseball and more. Patients with hand differences and their families are invited to participate in Camp Winning Hands. Refer to our Patient programs page for camp information.

Research and education

The orthopaedic team is engaged in clinical trials and scientific research to advance patient outcomes. Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California also is home to a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics.
