Jesus Gonzalez, August Employee of the Month

Jesus Gonzalez, August Employee of the Month

Jesus Gonzalez of nutrition services has worked for Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City since January 2016. Before working here he worked at the Radisson Hotel downtown for four years and in the café at ARUP and the University of Utah. Many people have commented on the extra touch he’s added to the food he prepares. This may be attributed to the five years he trained with Aurora Culinary Institute in Denver where he learned international cuisine.

Jesus enjoys his time at Shriners Hospitals for Children, stating his favorite part is being able to interact with the kids and their families. He also appreciates the good work environment at the Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital.

Maryanda Tomaras, director of nutrition services cited "excellence" as the Shriners Hospitals for Children core value he best exemplifies, citing the high quality he always strives to provide, whether it’s the daily salad bar or the dinner entrees. He is also continuously looking for new menu offerings and is an essential part of the team that reviews the upcoming menu to make weekly changes as needed. “He is very dependable,” said Maryanda. “I can always depend on him to do the right thing! His food always looks and tastes great.”

When the Employee of the Month committee surprised Jesus in the kitchen with the announcement of the August designation, he wasn’t expecting it at all, but said, “I feel thankful to know people like my food and work ethic.”

When Jesus is not at work he’s riding his bike and going to the movies with his family, which includes his wife and three children. His oldest, his 22 year old son, works with him at his other job at Wise Guys.
