Mikael Johnson's passion for Shriners Hospitals is evident in outreach clinic work and Board service

Mikael Johnson of El Maida Shriners serves on Board of Governors of Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City

Clinical staff from Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City have been going to El Paso, Texas, for more than 35 years. Mikael Johnson has been doing it for only a year, but it's already part of his passion.

He started helping with the outreach clinics last year after he became the potentate of the El Maida Shrine Club in El Paso. "I called Scott, who was then vice chair of the Board, and asked how we could help."

Before that he worked on the transportation committee. He makes absolutely sure that every patient who needs transportation to the clinic gets it. He makes sure that the families get food and smiles. Basically, he makes sure that things get done.

"We work for the hospital, for the children. Not the other way around," he said. He added that the Salt Lake City Hospital always brings their "A-game." "Helping these kids is a way for us to step up and match that."

For Mikael, being on the Board of Governors for Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City is "an honor and a privilege."
