Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City is an orthopaedic hospital specializing in conditions affecting the muscles, bones and joints. As such, we take up to 30,000 images annually for diagnostic and surgical planning purposes.

We adhere to the Image Gently Alliance campaign’s mission “To improve safe and effective imaging care of children worldwide.” We prioritize communication with families and generate high-quality diagnostic images, closely following the ALARA principle (radiation as low as reasonably achievable) by monitoring our radiation technical factors and using shielding whenever possible.

Our all-digital radiology suite is ideal for capturing detailed images, depending on the child’s needs. We were the first hospital in Utah and six surrounding states to offer the cutting-edge EOS Imaging System, capable of providing doctors with unprecedented 3-D views of their patients’ bone structure in a natural standing position, while dramatically reducing the child’s exposure to radiation. Research studies have shown that the radiation dose delivered by EOS can be up to 90 percent less compared to conventional radiography, depending on the body part. In almost all areas of the body, radiation is decreased by at least 50 percent less radiation. EOS imaging is available to Shriners Hospitals for Children patients only. For information about becoming a new patient, call our toll-free referral line, 800-314-4283.

Our expert, friendly staff, including five radiologic technologists and a board-certified pediatric radiologist, truly enjoy working with kids and their families. We are committed to taking the fear out of imaging for our patients. Parents are always welcome in the imaging room with their child and we have created a bright, warm and inviting environment.
