Special needs car seat clinic

Special needs car seat clinic

The staff at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City recognizes the difficulties families may face when caring for children with complex orthopaedic conditions, especially when safe transportation is the issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that approximately 60% of car seats are installed or fit improperly (NHTSA, 2015.) This concern is further complicated for children with more complex health care needs. We strive to ease each family’s experience by offering appointments with compassionate, multi-skilled health care professionals, all in one place on one day.

Special needs car seat clinic

Held two Fridays each month, the special needs car seat clinic at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City is available as a resource to any family with a special needs child. Clinical professionals certified through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as child passenger safety technicians assess the needs of each patient.

In addition to fitting the child for a car seat, families are educated on proper car seat usage specific to medical needs, and each seat is custom fit to ensure proper vehicle installation.

Children under the age of 18 can be referred directly to this clinic and are not required to be a Shriners Hospitals for Children patient. Call 801-536-3564 to schedule a car seat clinic appointment.
