Kenneth J. "Ken" Guidera, M.D., of Tampa, Florida, is serving his first three-year term on the Shriners Hospitals for Children Board of Trustees. He was elected in Tampa, Forida on July 11, 2020.

Professional and Personal

Dr. Guidera was a medical officer in the United States Army stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and he also served in South Korea.

Dr. Guidera worked for Shriners Hospitals for Children for 33 years, until his retirement in July 2019. His roles included staff surgeon and assistant chief of staff in Tampa, Florida, chief of staff at the Twin Cities location, and chief medical officer for Shriners Hospitals for Children at headquarters in Tampa.

His extensive public service includes participating in disaster relief after Hurricane Katrina and the earthquake in Haiti. Dr. Guidera was also involved in Shriners Hospitals for Children efforts in Guatemala, helping to coordinate evacuation and care after volcano and school fire emergencies. He has volunteered with the Armenia Spine Surgery Program, El Salvador Spine Clinic and the Guatemala Cleft Lip and Palate Program. In addition, Dr. Guidera serves on the boards of the Red Cross and Rotary International in Tampa.

Dr. Guidera holds membership in several professional organizations, including Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

He is married to Carol, who he met in Tampa, and between them they have eight children and 11 grandchildren. Dr. Guidera enjoys grilling, boating and golf (which he says he hopes to improve someday).
