Shriners Hospitals for Children Telehealth Care Network expansion

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Telehealth Care Network, one of the largest children's telehealth networks, will continue to expand its patient reach and affiliate locations in order to treat more kids in more places, closer to home. The network is poised to become an international leader in the use of telehealth as a tool for more efficient and flexible care delivery, education and training.

Telehealth network goals

  • Increase access to care at Shriners Hospitals for Children
  • Provide care that is more convenient for patients and families
  • Support existing referral networks
  • Create new affiliations and referral networks with clinical leaders in Shriners Hospitals for Children markets within the U.S. and internationally
  • Reduce unnecessary travel for care and the costs associated with travel
  • Leverage clinical resources across Shriners Hospitals for Children and beyond for greater care capacity, flexibility, efficiency, standardization and compliance
  • Reduce patient no-shows for appointments and ensure patient care plan adherence
  • Collaborate with the pediatrician/primary care physician regarding in the child’s care
  • Become the largest and most geographically far-reaching pediatric telehealth programs in the world

Future children's telehealth services

Shriners Hospitals for Children is committed to extending our reach to even more children with convenient, high-quality, specialized care. Expansion of our telehealth network is a key component of this commitment. Future Shriners Hospitals for Children telehealth services are planned to include:

  • Virtual visits or direct-to-consumer (D2C) telehealth care
    • D2C care allows patients to connect to their doctor or other Shriners Hospitals for Children care providers from their home. Using a cell phone, iPad, tablet or computer, patients can connect directly with their provider for check-ups, check-ins and other services that do not require radiology or other diagnostic equipment
    • Using D2C care provides a significant level of convenience for patients, allowing them to connect with their provider without the need to travel to a hospital, medical center or doctor’s office where they may be exposed to other illnesses
  • In-home patient monitoring
    • Patient in-home monitoring allows medical staff to use specialty devices to monitor patient vitals, validate that medications are taken on-schedule, and determine how a patient is feeling without the patient having to be in the hospital
  • Mobile readiness telehealth care
    • Shriners Hospitals for Children is dedicated to providing care to children, regardless of their location. In the near future, Shriners Hospitals for Children plans to be able to provide telehealth care to patients, regardless of their location and the condition of their surroundings during an emergency situation. Whether it be a flood, hurricane, earthquake or other disaster that occurs, our Go-Teams will be able to travel to nearly any location with specialty equipment that can be used to connect back to any of the Shriners Hospitals for Children locations, where providers can offer care in their area of specialty. Patients will be able to receive immediate care from Shriners Hospitals for Children physicians, without having to be moved to one of the Shriners Hospitals for Children locations to begin receiving care.

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Telehealth Care Network is growing all the time. The list of available affiliate sites will soon double in number.
