Specialized pediatric medical care closer to home

Parents and guardians want the best care for their children, but traveling for hours to access the specialized care they seek is extremely inconvenient and in some cases, simply isn’t an option. Certain injuries and medical conditions make traveling uncomfortable or even impossible. Thankfully, there are other options because of pediatric telehealth. Through the Shriners Hospitals for Children Telehealth Care Network, our health care system is able to impact and help improve the lives of even more children, every day, both nationally and internationally. Patients now have access to top specialists, closer to home.

Telehealth program mission and vision

  • Deliver an exceptional patient and family experience with the use of telehealth
  • Continue improving the standard of care and deliver high-quality pediatric health care
  • Increase the number of patients and families that Shriners Hospitals for Children serves around the world

How does a telehealth appointment work?

Many of the Shriners Hospitals for Children locations have telehealth agreements with multiple health care entities – our telehealth affiliates – inside and outside the U.S. Patients' appointments can take place at these affiliate locations with the use of real-time video and audio, they can be seen by their Shriners Hospitals for Children medical team.

There will be trained and certified health care professionals at the affiliate locations to assist during the telehealth visit. The Shriners Hospitals medical team examines your child via the telehealth service, from a private telehealth room at a participating Shriners Hospitals location or another associated telehealth affiliate site.

Who can qualify for telehealth services?

Many Shriners Hospitals for Children patients can benefit from telehealth during the course of their care. As a patient of Shriners Hospitals for Children, your child can be seen, when medically appropriate, at one of our telehealth clinic sites located throughout the U.S. and internationally. Your child's health care team will determine when your child can be seen, and will communicate the process to receive health care services via telehealth.

Medical services and conditions eligible for telehealth visits

No medical condition is excluded from the use of telehealth. However, in some cases, depending on the level of treatment needed, telehealth may not be appropriate for your child. Surgical or invasive procedures would not be considered for telehealth.

The Telehealth Care Network can also be used to provide health care professionals with the ability to consult with Shriners Hospitals for Children staff from U.S .emergency rooms. It also allows health care professionals to consult, collaborate, and receive and provide continuing education.

What is the payment process for telehealth patient services?
