G.E. Ghali, D.D.S., M.D.

G.E. Ghali, D.D.S., M.D., FACS, FRCS (Ed.), is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and the Gamble Professor and chairman of the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center – Shreveport. He attended Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas, followed by medical school at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. He underwent residency training in general surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, followed by a fellowship in head and neck surgery at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

In 2012, Dr. Ghali helped lead the initiative to establish a cleft lip and palate program at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport, and since that time has served as director of the cleft lip and plate program. As the program director, Dr. Ghali oversees the comprehensive cleft lip and palate care provided by a team of experts in oral and maxillofacial surgery. His surgical interests lie in the treatment of pediatric craniofacial deformities, including craniosynostosis, cleft lip and palate, and dentofacial deformities. Dr. Ghali is also founder of the Ark-La-Tex craniofacial and cleft team, which provides complex oral and maxillofacial care to children and adults across multiple health care institutions.

In 2016, Dr. Ghali was named interim chancellor and dean of the health sciences center. He serves on numerous national and international organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is active in both clinical and basic research, and has authored numerous book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals.
