Angel Brewer, RN, named 2018 Nurse of the Year

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport is pleased to announce that Angel Brewer, RN, has been named Nurse of the Year for 2018. Angel's selection is the result of nominations from and selection by her fellow nurses throughout the hospital.

Beginning her health care career as a nurse technician, Angel earned her Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from Southern University in Shreveport. She joined the nursing staff at the Shreveport Shriners Hospital in 2008, serving as a registered nurse (RN) with the hospital’s inpatient unit. She promptly established herself as a vital member of the nursing team through roles in the extended post-anesthesia care unit (EPACU) and on the patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) best practices team. In 2015, Angel earned her Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) degree from Northwestern University, while continuing her full-time nursing roles.

Described by her peers as organized, considerate and dedicated to excellent patient care, Angel is instrumental in addressing departmental needs and opportunities. In her current role as charge nurse, Angel is an important team player, promoting communication and continuity from shift to shift, as well as precepting/orienting new nurses on the inpatient unit.

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport is proud to have Angel represent our hospital as our 2018 Nurse of the Year.
