Latest COVID-19 updates from the Shreveport Shriners Hospital

Outpatient appointments remain limited, care for fractures and "time-sensitive" issues continue

Latest COVID-19 updates from the Shreveport Shriners Hospital

In response to recent developments with regard to COVID-19 guidance from the state of Louisiana, Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport would like to provide the following updates as they relate to revised state guidelines. As we prepare to welcome families back in the coming weeks, we will continue to convey new and updated measures designed to keep patients, families and staff safe.

  • Effective May 15, the state of Louisiana moved to "Phase 1" of reopening the state economy, and began relaxing certain protective restrictions. Per directives received from the Louisiana Department of Health, the current limitations on outpatient visits and elective surgeries remain in place.
  • In light of this extension from public health officials, outpatient visits will continue to be limited to fractures and other urgent needs, including "time-sensitive" conditions for which further delay in care may prove detrimental to the child. We are currently reviewing previously postponed appointments to identify children who may be in need of time-sensitive care.
  • We continue to schedule Fast Track Video Visits for patients who have pending appointments that do not require an in-person visit.
  • Surgeries continue to be limited to children with fractures and time-sensitive needs for which further delay in care may prove detrimental to the child.
Our policies for visitation, social distancing, and masking remain in place. In-house protective measures continue to include:
  • Only one parent or guardian is permitted to accompany a patient to their appointment – no additional family members or guests are allowed in the hospital building at this time.
  • Seating in our outpatient clinic has been modified to allow for social distancing. Additional seating for families is available in the auditorium adjacent to the outpatient waiting area.
  • Masking remains mandatory for all individuals entering the building. Patients and family members without a mask will be provided one prior to entering the building.
  • Our social distancing policy (6 feet of distance between patient/family and others) remains in effect for all individuals throughout the hospital.
  • Our cafeteria is open to patients and family members visiting for in-person appointments. Entry to our serving area will be limited to three individuals or families at one time to allow for social distancing. Families are welcome to eat in our front dining area, which has been reconfigured to allow for social distancing. We ask that families not move tables or chairs from their current arrangement.
For questions or concerns regarding appointments, please call our scheduling line at 318-226-3313. We thank our patients, families and friends for their continued understanding and support.
