Support services

At Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport, care is delivered in a family-centered model, which means the patient and family are the focus. In addition to high-quality medical care, we have many support services available.

Recreation areas

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport offers a variety of recreation areas to our patients and families. Our inpatient unit features three playrooms, each designed for a particular age range. One of these rooms includes “Timmy’s Playroom,” a football-themed play area installed courtesy of the Tim Tebow Foundation. Our central activities area features an open space for both therapy and recreation, and includes air-hockey and table tennis. Our large outdoor play area was developed with both therapy and play in mind, and includes various swings, sensory play stations, a basketball hoop and water station.

Dining services

Our cafeteria serves breakfast and lunch and is open to patients, families, staff and visitors. Vending machines are available just outside our cafeteria area.

Our hospital is also conveniently located near a variety of fast food restaurants, sit-down dining and pharmacies.

Parent lounge

In order to provide a comfortable area for our parents to rest, relax or have a quiet moment, a parent lounge is available adjacent to our central activities area off the corridor leading to the inpatient unit. The area features a television, comfortable chairs and several couches. A complimentary breakfast of juice and muffins is provided to our parents each day from this location.

Internet access/computer use

WIFI access is available using our PFA network. Your nurse or any hospital staff member can help you if you have trouble locating it and logging in.

Interpreter services

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport offers interpretive services for you and your child. It is vital to ensure that you have accurate information about your child’s care. If you will need a Spanish interpreter as part of your visit, please call our interpreter at 318-226-4218. For translations other than Spanish, a ‘language line’ phone service can be made available to help our staff communicate clearly and accurately with your family.

Parking is free at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport, with a convenient drop-off area at the front door of the hospital and plenty of spots designated to those with disabilities. Family parking is available along the north side of the hospital (along Kings Highway), as well as in two large lots across from the hospital on Samford Avenue.

Patient rooms do not have individual phone lines. Calls to specific rooms on the inpatient unit can be made by dialing the direct line above and providing a patient name or room number to our receptionist.

For the comfort of the other patients, we request that all calls are made before 9 p.m. An exception may be made for calls outside the United States due to time zone differences.

We recommend bringing a long distance calling card to make calls to home, for those families who do not have cell phones.

Cell phone usage is welcome in most areas of the hospital. Restricted cell phone areas are posted for your information.


The security team at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport provides on-site service 24 hours a day. If you have safety concerns or would like a security escort to your vehicle, please ask the receptionist at the front desk to call our security officer, or dial extension 110 from an internal/hospital phone line.


Our hospital does not have an on-site ATM machine, and out-of-state checks can be difficult to cash in the Shreveport area. Please take this into consideration before departing for Shreveport. Our receptionist can help direct families to the nearest ATM machines.

Travel assistance

If you need travel assistance, please contact your local Shriners temple (chapter). The men at your local temple may be able to assist in arranging overnight stays if you are traveling from a great distance or if your visit will take longer than a day. If you do not know which Shriners chapter is closest to you, please call us at 318-226-3313.

Bedside and interior accommodations

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport encourages one parent to stay with the child overnight during their stay and sleeper chairs are provided for this purpose. We offer several sleep rooms for families with unique needs in which a sleeper chair will not suffice.
