Fast Track Video Visits offered at the Spokane Shriners Hospital

Access to care at the Spokane Shriners Hospital just got even easier! To ensure continuity of care and patient safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Spokane Shriners Hospital is launching a Fast Track Video Visits (FTVV) program. The new program is dedicated to providing specialized care to established patients from the comfort of their own homes and gives patients the ability to see their doctors!

Fast Track Video Visits help decrease potential risk of exposure and will provide a convenient alternative for families traveling long distances to visit their doctor. Patients and their parents can connect with their doctors via video software to conduct follow-up visits and discuss treatment plans.

Pictured to the right is Ryan Baker, M.D., and medical assistant Tonya, preparing to connect with a patient on a virtual visit. Dr. Baker is able to take the video call from his office while the patient stays safe at home!

“This will not replace all in-person visits, there will continue to be circumstances that will require a physical visit,” said Glen Baird, M.D., chief of staff at the Spokane Shriners Hospital. “Our main goal is patient safety while understanding that the virtual visit program may not be suitable for every patient.”

What does the process for a FTVV look like?

  • Patient is determined eligible for FTVV
  • Provider availability is determined
  • Patient access contacts family
  • Mutually agreed upon time and date is scheduled
  • A Skype invite via email is sent to the family from patient access
  • Consent documentation is obtained via DocuSign

What are the technical requirements for a virtual visit?

  • Internet access
  • A computer or mobile device with email, camera and microphone

Some examples that may require an in-person visit include new injuries, the need for X-rays, patients that need adjustments to their orthotic or prosthetic devices and patients that need casts removed.

Based on medical criteria, our medical staff is offering a virtual visit for qualified patients. Please call the Spokane Shriners Hospital intake office at 509-623-0431 to learn more about how the Spokane Shriners Hospital staff is here for you!
