When it came time to decide what she wanted for her birthday, 9-year-old Piper chose not to ask for a new toy or clothes. Instead, Piper asked for her friends and family to donate money to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Spokane.

Piper, along with her family, drove three hours from their hometown of Omak to hand deliver the money and take a tour of the hospital.

This was Piper’s first time donating to the hospital. However, stewardship of Shriners Hospitals for Children — Spokane runs in the family. Piper’s great uncle, Dwaine Iverson, serves on the Board of Governors for the Spokane Shriners Hospital and has given countless hours of his time to the hospital.

“We are so grateful for Piper’s thoughtful donation, made selflessly to help other kids by donating her very own birthday money. The tender-hearted giving spirit of a young child like Piper is something that can inspire all of us,” said Lisa Smith, stewardship specialist for Shriners Hospitals for Children — Spokane.”

Through the generosity of donations such as these, Shriners Hospitals for Children — Spokane is able to help children reach their potential and lead more fulfilling lives, regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
