The health and safety of our patients, families and staff is our highest priority. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is requiring hospitals to meet established criteria as part of the state’s reopening plan. Effective March 22, 2021, Massachusetts moved into phase four of its reopening plan in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s guidance plan for reopening.

Athletic training

Athletic training

Athletic trainers are certified, licensed health care professionals who work with physicians to provide preventive services, emergency care, clinical diagnoses, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of patients with injuries and medical conditions.

Our athletic trainers at the Springfield Shriners Hospital teach athletes, coaches and parents about how to prevent and manage injuries, so that young athletes can return to play safely and in a timely manner. They provide educational and community outreach activities along with athletic training services to community schools, recreational and club sports teams. Having a certified athletic trainer at practices and games aids in the evaluation and management of injuries and emergency care.

  • Immediate emergency care and treatment, including cervical spine stabilization and cardiac emergencies
