Julio A. Martinez-Silvestrini, M.D.

Julio A. Martínez-Silvestrini, M.D., is a member of the consulting staff at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Springfield and sees patients in the hospital’s sports health and medicine clinic. He is board certified in sports medicine and has over 15 years of experience treating sports and musculoskeletal injuries at Baystate Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, where he is medical director of Baystate Rehabilitation Care. As a former athlete, Dr. Martinez-Silvestrini understands the urgency and passion of sports participation, without losing perspective of the need for recovery and complete healing for the injured athlete.

Dr. Martinez-Silvestrini has extensive experience with nonsurgical care of injuries related to performing arts, exercise, sports and athletics. He received his medical degree through the University of Puerto Rico and completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency through Puerto Rico University Hospital. In addition, he completed a sports medicine fellowship through the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and American Board of Electrodiagnositc Medicine, and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. 

Areas of special interest to Dr. Martinez-Silvestrini include sports injuries, performing arts medicine, tennis elbow, back pain, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, medical education and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
