The health and safety of our patients, families and staff is our highest priority. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is requiring hospitals to meet established criteria as part of the state’s reopening plan. The Springfield Shriners Hospital submitted its Phase 1 attestation on May 29, 2020, and its Phase 2 attestation on June 9, 2020.

If your child has an upcoming appointment, please contact your local Shriners Hospitals for Children location.

A surprise for Rushel

A surprise for Rushel

Rushel, a former patient of David Drvaric, M.D., emeritus chief of staff, began coming to the Springfield Shriners Hospital when she was 8 years old. She was born with proximal focal femur deficiency, a complex disorder in which the upper part of the femur bone is either malformed or missing, causing one leg to be shorter than the other.

She recently returned to the hospital as a volunteer in our BFit Cycling summer program. Rushel speaks volumes about the care she received from Dr. Drvaric, or Dr. D. as she refers to him, and made mention that she would have loved to thank him in person and show him how she is thriving prior to his retirement.

Unbeknownst to her, Rushel received a surprise visit from her favorite doctor, and it was a moment she will truly never forget! See the reunion:
